En 10 temps et beaucoup de mouvements
S’amuser à classer (presque) tout ce qu’on a écouté en une année, qui plus est en enfermant chaque artiste dans un tiroir trop définitif, peut sembler un exercice vain et prétentieux. Je l’envisage pour ma part comme un pense-bête, un travail d’archivage qui alimentera mes souvenirs et me rappellera où en étaient l’évolution musicale en 2011... et mes goûts du moment. Infiniment intime tout en tâchant de conserver un tant soit peu d’objectivité, ce récapitulatif est évidemment indigeste. Je vous invite à venir y picorer de temps à autre par le jeu des associations, rechercher les disques que vous avez aimés et découvrir, peut-être, d’autres perles dans des genres comparables.
2011 fut encore une année de recyclages en tous genres. On a pu y constater déjà l’essoufflement des revivals retro-pop, AOR et synth-pop, engoncés dans une auto-caricature parfois grotesque et emportés par un train qu’ont pris en marche quelques opportunistes. Les années 90 ont fait quant à elles leur grand retour : depuis que Pavement s’est (brièvement) reformé et que Jennifer Lopez danse la lambada, plus rien n’arrêtera sans doute cette énième déferlante. Mais ce sont les années 50, surtout, qui risquent bientôt de faire parler d’elles, avec cette tendance de plus en marquée à revenir vers les fondamentaux du rockabilly pour les triturer à l’envi, sans compter le bel avenir déjà promis à la vamp Lana Del Rey et ses probables futures suiveuses. « Kiss me like it’s the fifties », a d’ailleurs chanté House of Wolves, la découverte la plus bouleversante de l’année.
2011, c’était aussi l’année où le dubstep a définitivement quitté le garage pour plonger dans le mainstream, une tendance jamais aussi convaincante que lorsqu’il s’abreuve aux racines de la soul ; l’année où la chanson française a prouvé qu’elle avait décidément encore de beaux restes et une génération montante à promouvoir ; l’année où plusieurs artisans jadis discrets sont désormais devenus des superstars. Le flou des frontières, encore, toujours.
À titre personnel, 2011 fut un beau cru pour moi. J’y ai vu la confirmation d’un penchant plus affirmé pour les musiques envoûtantes et les voix atypiques, les formes mutantes de la pop et les artistes capables d’entrer en communion avec les éléments. Par ailleurs, 2011 a prolongé ma relation avec des artistes chers, dont l’intransigeance et l’intégrité à un stade avancé de leurs parcours les a rendus aujourd’hui intouchables : de Björk à PJ Harvey, de Joseph Arthur à Radiohead, aucun ne m’a déçu, et tous m’ont rappelé qu’au lieu de courir derrière la jeunesse, il était parfois bon de se sentir vieillir en compagnie de telles valeurs refuges.
